Daphne Kalotay

Daphne Kalotay is a Canadian-American whose writing often grapples with challenges to our shared humanity. Attending Boston University for an MFA, she stayed on for a literature PhD and wrote her dissertation on one of her very favorite story-writers, Mavis Gallant. (Her interviews with Gallant can be read in The Paris Review’s Writers-at-Work series.) Published in 20+ languages, Daphne’s works include the award-winning novels Russian Winter, Sight Reading, and Blue Hours and two story collections: Calamity and Other Stories and, most recently, The Archivists, winner of the Grace Paley Prize and longlisted for the Joyce Carol Oates Prize and Massachusetts Book Award. She lives in Somerville, Massachusetts and is a Special Program Instructor in the Masters in Creative Writing and Literature Program at Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education.
