London’s leading literary agency
with global reach

We are renowned for international dealmaking
and challenging the status quo.

What we do

We represent authors from around the world in literary and commercial fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature, championing distinctive novelists, thinkers, pioneers and graphic novelists. We also look after the Estates of some of the world’s literary greats, from Harper Lee to Vasily Grossman.

The London team

We are literary agents to a distinguished group of authors with dedicated translation rights and client accounting teams based in Bloomsbury.

History

Andrew Nurnberg’s journey into publishing began almost by chance. While pursuing a doctorate in diplomatic history, he worked a day a week at a small literary agency in London that dealt predominantly with the Dutch market. It was there that he discovered a different way to explore his passion for culture and all things international. What began as an academic detour soon became his lifelong vocation.

In 1977, Andrew founded his own agency, Andrew Nurnberg Associates, dedicated to representing authors across languages and borders. His pioneering commitment to international rights shaped the way literary translation rights were licensed.

His eponymous agency, founded almost half a century ago, is still focused on building authors’ careers at home and abroad, now with associated agencies around the world. Following his retirement in 2023, ANA London moved to 43 Great Russell Street, in London’s Bloomsbury, opposite the British Museum.
