Thomas Köstlin

Thomas Köstlin was born in southern Germany and has spent most of his life in Berlin. He experienced the divided city firsthand during his academic and professional training in the 1980s. In 1997, he returned to the newly reunified capital, where he worked as a manager for major cultural institutions before becoming a freelance consultant and project manager specializing in interdisciplinary exhibitions. He is working on a book about Berlin’s food markets. His interest in markets began, unsurprisingly, as a consumer in search of fresh, high-quality produce. Soon, however, the fascination of observing the vibrant life of markets in all its diversity became an important motivation in itself. Over the years, he has come to view markets as valuable witnesses to social and cultural change, reflecting the evolving patterns of everyday life.
