Sasha Denisova

Sasha Denisova is one of Europe’s leading contemporary playwrights, bringing a unique authority and imaginative courage to the page. Her war-themed plays such as The Hague and My Mom and the Full-Scale Invasion have been staged widely around the world.

Denisova is Ukrainian. She was born in Kyiv, graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and worked for many years as a journalist in Ukraine before moving to Moscow, where she studied theatre and worked as a playwright and theatre director. She grew up speaking Russian. She fled from Russia to Poland following Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. She now lives and works in Barcelona.
