A well-known figure on the international climbing scene, Mick was born in 1956.

He was introduced to rock climbing and mountaineering in his early teens by his father. He has been at or near the top of the field in a wide variety of climbing disciplines over the last 30 years. A regular lecturer and contributor to the climbing press, his articles have been published in Britain, Germany, Spain, India, France, Holland, Slovenia, Poland, Japan, China, Slovenia and the USA.

He has lectured extensively in Britain, Austria, France, Eire, Spain, India, Poland, Norway, Canada and Sweden. He was voted the "Mountaineers' Mountaineer" in the Sunday supplement to the The Observer. In the last 5 years alone he has been the subject of lengthy profiles in Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, UK and the USA. In 2003 he and Paul Ramsden were the first British team to win the prestigious Piolet d'Or (France) and Golden Piton (USA) awards (for the 'best' new climb of the year) for their route on Siguniang.

Mick's first book, Vertical Pleasure, was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1995 (reprinted 2006). His second book On Thin Ice was published by Baton Wicks in 2005.

Mick has been Vice President of the Alpine Club and a Management Committee member of the Mount Everest Foundation. All his climbing has been done in his holidays from his career in the UK tax office where he currently holds the position of Assistant Director of Capital Taxes.

He lives in Derbyshire with his wife and two children.
